Celebrations

Christmas is almost here. I celebrate it but some cultures don’t. All around the world people celebrate different holidays with different traditions.

I celebrate Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Chinese New Year. Each of the celebrations have their own traditions that they follow and I’m going to explain what I do to celebrate each holiday.

Christmas. I usually spend this time with dads side of the family. But last year I went to my neighbors house and this year I’m going to visit my mums side of the family.

Easter. I usually spend this with my dad because my mum works. During this day my dad hides chocolate eggs called easter eggs. Even if i was with my mum she would just eat all the easter eggs while she was hiding them. During this time the main thing we do is eat lots and lots and lots of chocolate.

Halloween. On halloween I dress up as something scary and go to peoples houses to collect lollies(If they put decorations up). I always collect lots of candy and eat it all pretty quickly. Last halloween I dressed up as a vampire and painted my face white and put fake blood all over myself.

Chinese New Year. This one is celebrated by my school because we learn chinese. In chinese lessons this year we made moon cakes and leaerned about the tradition of the celebration.

What holidays do you celebrate?

Amal Art

This term we have been reading Amal Undbound. So far we have read that she has to go to the Khan estate (the landlords house) to pay of debt.

The cover of the book has many symbols on it which represent Amal’s experiences, hopes and dreams. We created our own front cover with symbols that represent ourselves.

In my artwork the teddy bear represents my favourite toys. The two girls holding hands represents friendship. The girl in the splits up in the air represent dance because it is one of my favourite dance moves. On the the left near the bottom are my favourite foods. The red are represents my family. The dog on my left represent my dog. The person with their leg up represents dance.

If you were creating your own front cover, what is a symbol you would use and what does it represent?

Global Read Aloud

This term we are participating in GRA. GRA is the global read aloud. The global read aloud is where schools all around the world read a selected book. Some of the classes comment on others blogs and compare and contrast with the book and them.

The book we are reading is Amal Unbound. So far Amal Unbound is about a girl named Amal who dreams of being a teacher. She lives in Pakistan and girls don’t have near as good opportunities as the boys. For example the boys schools have bigger libraries than the girl schools. Her mother just had a baby and being the eldest child in her family she has to stay home and help. Which means she can’t go to school but for how long?

Have you read Amal Unbound?

Book Week

I’m Hermione Granger. I have come from Hogwarts for the day to see what everyone has dressed up for book week.

It is book week and I have dressed as Hermione Granger. Hermione is from Harry Potter and she is particular. Like how she once told Ron to do something a way when he was doing it a very similar way.

If you could spend a day as any book character you wanted what would it be and why?

A day at mum’s work

“What do you want to take?” asked mum.

”My drawing book, phone, colouring pens and the word searches” I replied.

I was going to go to my mum’s work because I was feeling sick on Tuesday.

”It’s going to be a long day” mum told me as we walked out the door.

“Wait!” I yelled. “I forgot my phone, it’s on the charger” I told mum as I started to get it. When I got in the car I realised my phone was only on 60% so I put it on the charger in the car. When we were on our way there my mum asked me if I wanted a hot chocolate. Obviously I said yes. When we got to my mums work she showed me her desk and introduced me to some of the people there. Later at 12:30 we went into another room. I put my things on a table and some people started arriving. They were medical students and my mum was the teacher. Once they started the lesson it sounded like they were speaking another language.

What would you bring to amuse you during a day at your mums work?

Cause and Effect

In 4T this term we have been learning about cause and effect. Cause is the reason why something happens and the effect is what happens because of the cause.

Here is my cause and effect comic

A few tips for camp

Dear Future year 4 students,

I have a few tips for camp.

1. Go to the top of the giant swing. Even if your’e scrared it’s really fun when your’e on on it.

2. When you cook damper, cook it very slowly. I remember almost everyone in my group put their damper so close it burnt really quickly. Also some people’s damper fell off the stick.

3. When you do the list of 4 people you want in your cabin, choose people who won’t talk very much so you can get to sleep easier.

Did you enjoy camp?

My School Celebrates Literiture

“Space jump” Ms Tirtilas yelled. Oh no. I couldn’t hold this position much longer. We were playing a game called space jump during theatre sports. I was bent down touching my toes. Finally, someone took my spot in the game.(That’s part of the game) After that game we played another game. I don’t know what that game was called but it was fun. In the second game we played we were put into groups of four and we had to pretend we were robots in a line. It was quite funny. The next game was where someone had to sit on a chair and someone else in the game had to whisper “Good morning your majesty,” Then the person on the chair had to guess who said it.

Have you played any of these games?
