Amal Art

This term we have been reading Amal Undbound. So far we have read that she has to go to the Khan estate (the landlords house) to pay of debt.

The cover of the book has many symbols on it which represent Amal’s experiences, hopes and dreams. We created our own front cover with symbols that represent ourselves.

In my artwork the teddy bear represents my favourite toys. The two girls holding hands represents friendship. The girl in the splits up in the air represent dance because it is one of my favourite dance moves. On the the left near the bottom are my favourite foods. The red are represents my family. The dog on my left represent my dog. The person with their leg up represents dance.

If you were creating your own front cover, what is a symbol you would use and what does it represent?

Global Read Aloud

This term we are participating in GRA. GRA is the global read aloud. The global read aloud is where schools all around the world read a selected book. Some of the classes comment on others blogs and compare and contrast with the book and them.

The book we are reading is Amal Unbound. So far Amal Unbound is about a girl named Amal who dreams of being a teacher. She lives in Pakistan and girls don’t have near as good opportunities as the boys. For example the boys schools have bigger libraries than the girl schools. Her mother just had a baby and being the eldest child in her family she has to stay home and help. Which means she can’t go to school but for how long?

Have you read Amal Unbound?
