Celebrations

Christmas is almost here. I celebrate it but some cultures don’t. All around the world people celebrate different holidays with different traditions.

I celebrate Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Chinese New Year. Each of the celebrations have their own traditions that they follow and I’m going to explain what I do to celebrate each holiday.

Christmas. I usually spend this time with dads side of the family. But last year I went to my neighbors house and this year I’m going to visit my mums side of the family.

Easter. I usually spend this with my dad because my mum works. During this day my dad hides chocolate eggs called easter eggs. Even if i was with my mum she would just eat all the easter eggs while she was hiding them. During this time the main thing we do is eat lots and lots and lots of chocolate.

Halloween. On halloween I dress up as something scary and go to peoples houses to collect lollies(If they put decorations up). I always collect lots of candy and eat it all pretty quickly. Last halloween I dressed up as a vampire and painted my face white and put fake blood all over myself.

Chinese New Year. This one is celebrated by my school because we learn chinese. In chinese lessons this year we made moon cakes and leaerned about the tradition of the celebration.

4T’s Nativity play

Christmas is almost here and people are starting to celebrate but do you actually know how Christmas began. 4T is making a play showing people how Christmas began. It is the story of the nativity.

The nativity is where a girl named Mary got pregnant at the age of 15 or 16. Most people would think that is crazy now. In B.C times that was normal. Women then would marry at young ages to men who were in their 30’s. That is a big age difference. Mary was not having a normal child she was going to be having the son of god. She was told to call him Jesus by the angel Gabriel. In those times women who weren’t married and had a child received the stoning penalty. The stoning penalty is where people can throw stones at you til you die. You can tell that Joseph Mary’s soon to be husband Joseph wasn’t going to be happy. You might not have been able to tell he he wouldn’t be happy. That is because you probably think that they were going to get married Mary wouldn’t be killed and happily ever after. It wasn’t as simple as that though. Mary and Joseph were arranged to be married and Joseph was contemplating wether to go through with the marriage or not. Joseph was about to choose no when an angel visited him and told him to marry Mary. After they got married they had to go to Bethlehem to register for a census. When they were in Bethlehem there were to many people and nowhere to stay. So Jesus had to be born in a stable. After Jesus was born a new star appeared in the sky. After he was born many people visited him and gave him gifts. Not everything a was happy though as King Herod was jealous of Jesus and wanted to kill him. So an angel visited Joseph and told him about King Herod so Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus flexed to Egypt until people wishing harm to Jesus died. They then went to Nazareth.

In the 4T’s nativity play we wrote our own scripts and had to audition for our parts. I got the part of the angel. There are 2 angels and I got the one with the name angel. The other angel was called Gabriel.
